Lisbon, 5th May 2016 – The team IPV Green Racers, composed of six students and two teachers from the Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Management department of Viseu Polytechnic Institute, will participate in the international competition Shell Eco-Marathon which will take place in Le Mans (France) this may.
For João Mira Santiago, CEO of Bizdirect, “It's very important for Bizdirect to challenge and motivate students to participate in innovative and eco-friendly projects that allow them to apply the knowledge acquired in college, and also gets us closer us to the local community, strengthening our strategic partnership with the institute. This sponsorship is consistent with our social and environmental responsibility policy and aims to encourage entrepreneurial spirit among the students."
The IPV started competing in this initiative "in 1999 and the best mark was reached in 2013, with 829 km with one liter of gasoline and a 12th place among 63 teams from all over Europe. It has been a continuous work, developed through learning from failures and successes”, explains Alexandre Aibéo, Teacher at the Technology and Management School and coordinator of the project. According to Alexandre, this iniciative allows “the application of knowledge on a real challenge and takes creativity to search for new solutions with the goals of competing and improving."
"The support of Bizdirect brings new life to this project and makes us want to overcome this challenge and take the image of IPV and Portugal further. Students also feel this project as an opportunity to show their skills as future professionals with a possible employer”, explains Alexandre Aibéo.
The Viseu team will be, along with another Portuguese team from the University of Beira Interior, representing Portugal in this international competition where are expected over 40 teams from all over the world.
