Microsoft Dynamics CRM stepping forward Internet of Things
article written by bizdirect
With the launch of the spring wave of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016 in June 2016, Microsoft introduced new capabilities to Dynamics CRM, one of them is the preview version of the Connected Field Service, part of the Field Service module.

The Field Service module allows advanced scheduling, resource and inventory management for employees in the field or employees working in warehouses who need to fulfill work orders and provide preventive maintenance across multiple places.

With the acquisition of FieldOne by Microsoft, the Dynamics CRM Online functionalities are extended in order to provide a complete field service management solution, including new components such as service location, customer asset management, preventive maintenance, work orders management, resources management, product inventory, scheduling and dispatch, mobility, collaboration, customer billing, and analytics.

Additionally, already available in preview mode, Connected Field Service is a solution that integrates Microsoft Dynamics CRM business application with Azure IoT Suite, Analytics Platform Services and Power BI.

With this extension it’s possible to monitor IoT-enabled devices, detect anomalies, and generate alerts that trigger automated actions or create workflows for the established service level agreements.

Another great feature is the possibility to schedule or assign resources to services according to availability and location of the customer.
Uber is a good example. While Uber assigns a ride to a driver, in field service, a worker receives the next task according to location and skills.

"For many service-oriented businesses, this represents a truly revolutionary shift from more of a reactive break-fix posture to a model that is built on predictive service," explained Param Kahlon, general manager of program management for Dynamics CRM.

At Bizdirect we are enthusiastic about further developments on Field Service and the integration of this new component in our Dynamics CRM projects.
